The Raising Spirits Event

The first weekend in March heralds "Raising Spirits" which has been held at Bent Country Club in Lititz, Pa., West Shore CC. in Camp Hill, Pa, and this year for the first time at Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, PA. Last year's event, "Fusion Illusion", featured fusion cuisine created by Chef John Ash and served with wine and spirits that complemented each course. A magician entertained during the cocktail hour and intermittently throughout the course of the evening. In its five years, "Raising Spirits" has raised over $220,000 through ticket sales, live and silent auctions and raffles that has directly benefited our students.

This year’s event, “The New Brews: A Return to Old World Classics” will be hosted by local Chef Bill Scepansky, Corporate Chef for Four Seasons Produce, and will be held at Lancaster Country Club on March 15, 2008.

After graduating from of the Culinary Institute of America, Bill worked in upscale hotels, restaurants and institutions up and down the East coast. He gained a loyal following with his participation in special events and media appearances, from TV to radio, demonstrations at “The Book and The Cook,” the Pennsylvania Farm Show, the Bermuda Gourmet Getaway and many others.

Now, as corporate chef, Bill helps customers and associates alike better understand the growing world of fresh fruits and vegetables that Four Seasons Produce has to offer. Through menu and recipe development, staff training and cooking demonstrations, Bill brings healthy and exciting ways of incorporating more fresh fruits and vegetables into everyday practices. Bill also writes his own feature column in the Lancaster County magazine called “Bill of Fare”. He is a regular guest on Blue Ridge Cable Network’s popular TV show, “Cooking for Class” and was recently featured on WGAL’s “Going Green in the Kitchen” series.

Finally, what ties his passion for all things food with this event in particular is that Bill is an active member of National Home Brewers Association and quite the craft beer enthusiast. From growing his own hops to brewing from grain, Bill has a fond appreciation for smaller, less mass produced products, that emphasize quality over quantity.

Join Bill, The Janus School and Lancaster Country Club for a night of fine beer and food pairings. Sample exceptional beers of the world paired with new, up-scale interpretations of tried and true, old world combinations, as well as a few new creations of his own! Experience just how the proper beer can elevate food to new levels, just like wine.
