"Before coming to Janus, homework could be really rough on my mom and me. I'd just get frustrated... She'd end up doing
it for me."

  Questions we're frequently asked

Q. How can I be sure that Janus is what my child needs?
A. A good first step is to attend an open house or visit with our Director of Admission. You might also want to explore two alternatives open to all students (with or without disabilities): our summer program and our year-round tutoring.

Q. How do students stay organized and focused?
A. One of our time-proven tools is the Janus notebook system. It teaches students how to organize their assignments and study habits, even how to organize their ideas. All Janus students are taught study skills within the context of their classes.

Q. What about homework?
A. Homework is an important tool at Janus. It lets teachers see how students work independently, and encourages students to take responsibility for their learning. Translation: the students do the work, not the parents.

Q. Can I afford Janus?
A. The Janus School is the only independent school in Central Pennsylvania dedicated to providing a core academic program to students with learning differences. The school does not receive government funding.  We try very hard to keep tuition down while providing the kind of education you cannot find anywhere else in central Pennsylvania. We hope it’s "worth every penny," as one parent says.

Q. Is financial aid available?
A. Yes. We encourage families in need of help to apply for financial aid through the financial aid process.

Q. Do the parents have to provide transportation?
A. Sometimes your school district will be required to provide bus service. Some parents have arranged their own car pools or bus services.

Q. Does my child need a diagnosis of a specific learning disability?
A. Yes. You can either see a licensed psychologist or ask your public school, which is required to provide an evaluation if you request it.

Q. What are your school hours?
A. From 8:15 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day.
