PARENT EDUCATION SEMINARS

"This has been one of the most incredible workshops offering real strategies, tremendous resources, great sharing of information and skilled guidance."

"I found it to be very informative, practical, and stimulating!! Your notebook and print-outs will be used over and over again."

"We have gained a valuable 'mindset' into our daughter's world."

The 2005 Janus Parent Education Seminar was held for five Wednesday mornings from 9:00-12:00 on March 23, 30, April 6, 13, and 20, 2005 at the Young Center Seminar Room, Elizabethtown College.

Parents learned in-depth what it takes for kids with learning disabilities to become successful and how to change their child's behavior at home and school. They studied landmark research on helping children with learning disabilities become successful adults and gained valuable skills in using that research at home. Parents learned to help their children:

  • become more self-aware,
  • be more proactive,
  • set and use appropriate goals,
  • use support systems,
  • gain emotional stability,
  • persevere when things get tough,
  • and improve self-esteem.
Janus Parent Seminars will help you meet other parents like yourself, who have children with specific learning disabilities, and share your stories, concerns, and ideas. We will personally address your concerns and specific issues that you are experiencing at home with your child. To receive information about upcoming parent seminars, please join our mailing list by clicking here.

EVENING PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND ADULTS

At Janus we know all great minds do not think alike. We also know that learning is a life-long adventure that for some of us can be a life-long struggle.

The Janus School Evening Program is an academic support and tutorial program for adults and high school students who know what it is like to struggle to learn. Our students have specific learning disabilities. Each student receives a one-to-one tutorial focusing on his or her most urgent learning needs. Classes in reading, writing, mathematics, study skills, and problem solving will be taught in small groups. We focus on the discovery of each student's areas of strengths and difficulties to determine how he or she learns best.

The Janus Evening Program can be just what you need to help keep up good marks in college or high school, achieve higher scores on the SAT or GED, advance in your career, or simply learn to read or write. All of our students have different learning needs and different reasons for wanting to learn. Perhaps you have always wanted to try college or a new career, but lack the skills to get you there. We can help you reach your goals.

The Janus Evening Program is a year-round program broken into three semesters: spring, summer, and fall. Classes and tutorials meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Applications and enrollment are available any time of the year due to the individualized nature of the program. Placement decisions are made after a careful screening of your educational needs and goals. Placement screenings are required. Students must be age 16 or older to apply.

Evening Program teachers and tutors are experienced and gifted at helping students with learning problems reach their fullest potential. Teachers are collaborative, caring, and supportive, creating a personal learning experience for all students.

What do our students say about us?
"What we are doing at Janus should be done for all people with learning problems."
-Shirlene, age 25, learning to write
"I'm so excited; I feel like a kid going to the park!"
-Susan, age 37, learning to read

To schedule a placement screening or ask questions about our program, please email us at outreach@thejanusschool.org. or call between 9:00 and 5:00 PM at 717-626-1625. We will be happy to talk with you about your goals.
