Janus is fortunate to have a committed group of community leaders serving as our Board of Trustees.

David Newhouse, President

David Newhouse, a resident of Middletown, Pa. is the executive editor of The Patriot-News in Harrisburg. He has been at the newspaper since 2001. Prior to his tenure with The Patriot-News, Mr. Newhouse worked in various positions at The Times of Trenton, NJ. He has a B.A. from Cornell University and an M.A. in secondary education from Tufts University. A native of New Orleans, Mr. Newhouse is married and has four daughters, three of whom have learning differences. David's youngest daughter attended The Janus School for two years.

H. Stephen Evans, Vice President

H. Stephen Evans is Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the Retail Division for High Real Estate Group, LLC. He leads the retail division within High Real Estate Group and is responsible for guiding High's retail development efforts and management of its shopping center portfolio.

Prior to High Real Estate Group, Mr. Evans served as Senior Vice President, Real Estate, Legal and Governmental Affairs for York, PA-based The Bon-Ton Department Stores, Inc., a publicly-traded, leading fashion department store company. During his tenure at The Bon-Ton, Mr. Evans established its Real Estate Division and was responsible for the development and implementation of its strategic real estate expansion plan.

An experienced retail real estate specialist prior to The Bon-Ton, Mr. Evans spent 12 years with the Real Estate Department of JC Penney Company, Inc., serving in various positions in New York, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh.

A member of the Florida Bar, Mr. Evans holds a B.A. in Political Science from Drew University and a J.D. from Stetson University College of Law. Mr. Evans is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

Robert S. Liss, Secretary

Robert (Rob) Liss, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for Clipper Magazine, has been helping to direct the growth of Clipper Magazine for the past 15 years. In addition to his responsibilities regarding strategic planning for the company, Mr. Liss oversees approximately 200 markets in 12 states.

As part of the leadership team at Clipper Magazine, Mr. Liss, along with Steve Zuckerman, Bob Zuckerman and Ian Ruzow, have fostered an on-going employee environment that encourages giving back to the local community. Over the years, Clipper Magazine has supported employee blood drives, March of Dimes Walk, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, contributions to local food banks, and much, much more. The Clipper Magazine Stadium is another example of their commitment to the local community, through supporting the efforts to bring minor league baseball to Lancaster.

Mr. Liss is personally involved in his community, serving on the Board of Directors for Aaron's Acres, a non-profit organization that provides services to children with disabilities. In 2006, he formed Blue Bandana Pet Bakery, a business that donates 100% of its profits to organizations that help individuals with learning differences. Mr. Liss recently became a board member for the Jewish Community Alliance of Lancaster (JCC-JCAL).

As a member of the Janus Board, Mr. Liss helped develop an internship program between the school and Clipper Magazine.

A. Richard Szeles, Treasurer

A. Richard Szeles has been the managing partner of Szeles Real Estate Development Company, L.P., a full service commercial office building development and management company, since 1986. He was educated in the field of business administration with an emphasis on finance and received his degree from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Szeles has been responsible for the development or acquisition of numerous projects in his career.

Mr. Szeles has also dedicated significant time as: Secretary & Part Owner of Alex R. Szeles, Inc. (an affiliated company of Szeles Real Estate Development Company); Board Member and Chairman of the Building Committee and Finance Committee for The Janus School; Board member and Secretary/Treasurer of Holy Spirit Hospital Corporation, Board Member of Holy Spirit Hospital. Previous board activities include: Board Member, Chairman of Loan Committee, and Chairman of the Real Estate Committee for Legacy Bank; Chairman of Construction Committee for Morning Star Pregnancy Center; Chairman of Construction Committee, St. Lawrence Music School; and Building Committee Member, St. Catherine Laboure Parish.

Richard Bidgood

Richard Bidgood is a Vice President for M&T Bank, where he specializes in financing healthcare facilities. He has extensive banking and financing experience and has brought that experience to a number of non-profit boards, including The Janus School, providing financial oversight and advice.

Mr. Bidgood holds a Bachelors degree in Philosophy from Franklin & Marshall College and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts. He was a member of the Franklin & Marshall faculty for several years, and has been active in several educational projects at the college, including teaching humanities in the Clemente Program, and acting as faculty advisor for Model UN.

Dr. Jane Bray

Dr. Jane Bray is the Dean for the School of Education and Associate Provost at Millersville University, a position she has held since August 2001. She has been involved in education for the past 36 years. Beginning as an elementary school teacher and later moving into an adjunct position in higher education, Dr. Bray was a professor of teacher education for 10 years. She has taught in Pennsylvania, Nevada, and New Jersey.

Mark Caltagirone

Mark S. Caltagirone, CPA, is Senior Vice President in the Commercial Middle Market Group of Sovereign Bank, which serves companies ranging in revenues of between $20 million and $500 million. Previously, he was a Partner in the Reading office of ParenteBeard, a regional CPA firm, where he performed closely-held business appraisals and performed litigation support services. Mr. Caltagirone earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and an MBA in Finance from Lehigh University. Having served on numerous not-for-profit community Boards over the years, he is presently a member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, the Law Foundation of Berks County, and the Greater Reading Economic Partnership.

Dr. Katie Donahue

Dr. Donahue is an Associate Professor of Anesthesia and Pediatrics as well as Perioperative Center Director of the Main Operating Room at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She wears many hats to assure that the operating room complexes run smoothly and that patients have a good experience during their surgical stay at the Hershey Medical Center. She has an interest in overseas medicine and has participated in several mission trips with Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a non-profit organization which provides care for children requiring plastic surgical procedures.

Dr. Donahue received her DO degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and her BS in Biology from Fordham University.

She has lectured and written on numerous topics including Pediatric Anesthesia, Management of the Difficult Airway, Creating a Perioperative Leadership Team and How to Demonstrate Operating Room Efficiency.

Wendy W. Hershey

Wendy W. Hershey is a Speech-Language Pathologist with Behavioral Healthcare Consultants that specializes in neurogenic disorders including Traumatic Brain injury, Cerebral Vascular Accidents, Dysphagia, and Cognitive Disorders from various diagnoses. Previously, she was a Chief Speech Language Pathologist for Lancaster General Hospital, including treatment and administration.

Ms. Hershey holds a M.S. in Speech Pathology from Towson State University and a B.S. in Communication Disorders from Radford College. She is a member of the American Speech Hearing Association and the Pennsylvania Speech-Hearing Association.

Carrie Nunan Hill

Carrie joined the board in 2009 but has been very involved with the school long before that time. Carrie was chairperson of Beating the Odds, our highly successful $4.8 million 2008-2010 Capital Campaign to expand and renovate the school.

Lawrence Keating

Lawrence Keating is a retired attorney whose experience includes litigation, mergers and acquisitions, securities, human resources, and commercial transactions. He graduated from the University of Virginia and Pennsylvania State University, and served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. He currently serves with The Janus School, the Lancaster Bar Association Foundation, and SCORE Lancaster, and in the past, with the Lancaster YWCA and Leadership Lancaster.

Todd Lindsley

Todd T. Lindsley is Principal of Lindsley Development Consulting, a full service fund raising consulting firm in Lancaster, PA. Since 1994 Mr. Lindsley has provided fund raising counsel to over 80 organizations nationwide whose combined capital campaign goals exceed $1 billion. His work includes internal assessment studies, campaign feasibility studies, campaign planning, volunteer recruitment and training, major gift program development, executive searches, and campaign management. Prior to his consulting career, Mr. Lindsley served as Assistant Dean for Development at the University of North Carolina School of Law, Director of Development/Capital Campaign Director at Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY and as Director of Alumni Relations at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. He has also served on numerous non-profit boards in PA, NC and NY.

Edward. L. Motter

Edward L. Motter is a Senior Advisor for Susquehanna Capital, a private equity fund. Prior to joining Susquehanna Capital in 1993, he was involved in his family's printing press design and build company. Following the sale of the company, Ed joined Susquehanna Capital, and since 1993 he has held numerous management positions within Susquehanna Capital and its portfolio companies. Mr. Motter was also a Director of First Capital Bank in York and for the York County Industrial Development Corporation from 1988 to 1991. He holds a B.S. in Engineering from Bucknell University and a M.S. in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.

Mark Randall

Mark Randall, a resident of Lititz PA, recently retired as the President/CEO of Zimmer-Randall Associates, Inc., a medical device distributorship in the region. He is focusing his efforts on volunteer activities, traveling, and spending quality time with his family. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Lancaster YWCA.

Mr. Randall holds a Bachelors degree in accounting from Boston College. He is also an active member of Vistage, a global CEO leadership group, and has participated in many continuing education programs on business planning, business development and strategic corporate leadership.

Elaine A. Stanko

Elaine A. Stanko is an attorney in the Financial Services and Public Finance and Business Counseling Groups at McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC in the firm's Lancaster office. Elaine specializes in corporate legal matters. She focuses her practice on representing financial institutions in a variety of transactions, including creating various custom and form commercial and consumer loan and related compliance documentation and serving as a resource to internal legal counsel on a wide range of regulatory compliance issues.

Ms. Stanko has represented corporations and partnerships in commercial transactions, which include: public and private financings, lending, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, general corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiation.

Prior to joining McNees, Elaine was a partner at Fox Rothschild LLC and at Barley, Snyder, LLC in Reading, PA, as a member of its business and banking groups.

From 2003-2007, Ms. Stanko served as a Pennsylvania Special Education Hearing Officer. She conducted administrative due process hearings concerning special education issues including ruling on pre-hearing motions and evidentiary issues.

Ms. Stanko served as board president at The Janus School from 1994-1998, and again in 2002-2006. She also serves on the board of Easter Seals Eastern PA, and is an allocation volunteer for the United Way of Berks County.

Ms. Stanko was recognized as a recipient of the Pro Bono Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 2004, and she was the 2010 recipient of the Take the Lead Award from Girl Scouts of Eastern PA. She holds a J.D. from Penn State University's Dickinson School of Law and a B.A. from Shippensburg State College. She is a member of the Bar in Pennsylvania and a member of the Berks County Bar Association.
